 LEAGUE RULES

                                                                                    

1.         World 8-ball Pool Rules apply.

2.        A minimum of seven players per team is required for entry to the league.

3.        Players are committed to the first team they play for.

4.        A match will consist of twelve frames, in two sets of six. A player may only play once per set.

5.        Points system - one point per frame won. No bonus points.

6.        A team must have at least four players in order to play a match, otherwise rule 7 applies.

7.        If a team does not turn up to play a match, or has less then four players, a statutory 8-0 loss will be awarded against them.

8.        If a team does not turn up, or gives less than 24 hours notice of cancellation, the team will be fined the £20 bond. The committee will not be held responsible for teams home or away not playing there fixture on the night.

9.        Any team, which is fined as in rule 8, will be required to pay an additional £20 bond, or they may be expelled from the league at the discretion of the committee. Rule 8 will still apply.

10.      The home team will referee the first frame. The referee will then alternate between the away team and the home team.

11.        In the first frame a coin will be tossed, the winner has choice of break. The break of each subsequent frame will alternate between the teams.

12.       Teams must complete both team sheets and retain their own (see rule 28).

13.      Both teams must write the first three names on both team sheets (home first) by 8:15 pm. The team sheet must be made available to the opposition.

14.       There is no other time limit for names to be written down on the sheet (with the exception of rule 21).

15.       Names may not be altered unless the opposition captain gives permission. There is no need for reserves.

16.      Players are to be cup tied once they have played in any round of any cup/plate,

17.       A player who has registered after the half way point is NOT eligible to play in any cup/plate games.

18.       Any team not adhering to rules 16 & 17 will be excluded from the cup/plate games.

19.       In a cup match, one player must be starred before the final frame starts. In the event of a draw, the starred player will play an extra frame to decide the winning team.

20.     The match should start no later than 8:15 pm (by the clock at the venue).

21.       One frame may be claimed at 8:20 if the opposition’s player is unavailable to play. Subsequent frames may be claimed every five minutes.

22.      If a player is not available to play five minutes after the preceding frame is has finished (excluding the food break); the frame may be claimed.

23.     If a player is barred or suspended from an opposing pub or club or is under age, the team must contact the opposing pub or club landlord to ask permission for the player to play.

24.      A landlord/lady etc. may play for any one team on the night but cannot play for more than one team on the same night.

25.      New players may register at any time during the season.

26.     A new player must be written on both team sheets on the night.

27.      If a new player plays without being registered, any frames they played will be regarded as being lost. Points will be deducted accordingly. The committee reserves the right to deduct further points at their discretion.

28.      New players and player transfers should also be registered at the next league meeting (on the original team registration sheet provided).

29.      All team sheets must be handed in at each (the next) league meeting. Failure to hand in team sheets will result in a one-point deduction per team sheet.

30.     Food or a free drink must be provided at all league matches. This is optional at cup matches.

31.      A match may be rearranged only if both team captains agree and five days notice is given to the fixtures secretary by both team captains. Otherwise, rules 7, 8 & 9 apply. If a new date cannot be agreed on, the committee will arbitrate. Cup matches can be rearranged but only under VERY special circumstances, and on the approval of the committee, and to be played before the next league meeting. A team not turning up will forfeit the match.

32.     A claimed match must be claimed by the end of the next league meeting; otherwise, a 0-0 result will be recorded.

33.     The last two league matches can only be rearranged by special permission from the committee.

34.     A rearranged match must be played before the last round of the league. Otherwise, a 0-0 result will be recorded.

35.     The home team must telephone or e-mail the result to the league no later than 8:00 pm the following day (Tuesday). Otherwise, rule 35 applies.

36.     If a result is not received by the deadline, the team responsible will receive no points.

37.     If a dispute cannot be resolved on the match night, notice in writing should be given to the committee so they may arbitrate. The committee will implement the constitution (points 11, 12).

38.     Any team that has two games claimed against them (as in rule 7) may be required to pay an additional £30 bond before re-entry is allowed the following season. The committee reserves the right to refuse entry.

39.     Any team that has three or more matches claimed against them (as in rule 7) may be expelled from the league at the discretion of the committee. This team will be liable to rule 37.

40.     If a team is expelled or drops out of the league, all points will be deducted for all the matches they played.

41.       One registered player from each team must attend each league meeting. Teams not attending will be fined two points on the first occasion, three on the second, and four on the third and so on. Teams not attending will also be subject to rule 28.

42.      Players may be transferred between teams at any time up to halfway through the season (fee £2). After halfway, permission must be obtained from the committee (fee £4). A player who is transferred is regarded as a new player and is subject to rules 25, 26 & 27. This includes a player who transfers from a team which has either dropped out or been expelled.

43.     A transferred player is not considered as registered unless the transfer fee is received by the treasurer at the next league meeting. Should the transfer fee not be received, the player will be regarded as unregistered and points will be deducted accordingly (as in rule 26).

44.      Unreasonable and/or bad behaviour during matches (as described in EPA rule A), from players or team spectators will not be tolerated. The committee reserves the right to discipline a player and/or team if a complaint received in writing is upheld. (As in constitution points 11, 12).

45.      In the event of a tie at the end of a season, a play-off will decide the winner and/or runner-up places.

46.     Permission must be sought from the committee to move a team to a different venue (pub/club) during the season. A minimum of seven players must move to the new venue. The committee reserves the right to deny such a request.

47.      Cup semi-finals and finals will be played at neutral venues chosen by the committee. A referee will be provided in accordance with the constitution. The 60 second rules (World Rule I) will apply to Cup semi-finals and finals).

 

In general, try to ensure that there is a rest available; there is adequate lighting for the pool table. A copy of the league and world 8-ball playing rules must be on view.
